Most importantly, all are welcome! Visiting a new church can feel intimidating, whether you've attended church your whole life or you're walking through the doors for the very first time. We hope this page answers some common questions and helps you feel at home before you arrive.
We gather in the sanctuary for meditation before Worship.
We gather for Coffee Fellowship after Worship and frequently for potlucks, picnics or special dinners.
When Do You Worship? Sunday Worship is at 11:00 a.m. from September through May, but from Memorial Day through Labor Day, we meet at 10:00 a.m. Coffee Fellowship follows the service all year, and we welcome you to have a snack, coffee or iced tea, and get to know us. Adult education classes are held from September – May at 9:30 a.m. Women meet in the Upper Room next to the sanctuary using the Feasting on the Word curriculum. Men meet in the Balmer Building next to the Fellowship Hall and take turns leading a discussion of their choice. Children’s Sunday School - During the school year, children from Kindergarten-5th grade are dismissed from Worship to go downstairs after the Pastor’s Children’s message. Teachers will lead them in a multi-age lesson from Feasting on the Word.
Where should we park? Look down Virginia Avenue for the red brick church with the tallest steeple! Our parking lot is on 6th Street, and you may enter through the glass doors to the Fellowship Hall. There are designated accessible parking places in front of the door, and an Usher will direct you up the stairs or assist you if you need the elevator. Our choir warms up in fellowship hall prior to worship, but do not mind us quietly walking through the hall. If you prefer to park on Virginia Avenue, just come up the steps to the white double doors where you’ll be met by an Usher. Accessible restrooms are available on both levels, and hearing assistance devices are available at the greeter station.
What Should I Wear? Whatever makes you comfortable. On any given Sunday you'll see everything from jeans, shorts, and t-shirts to dresses, ties, and sport coats. Some people enjoy dressing up for worship, while others come more casually. You are welcome either way.
Our children are involved in Worship.
What Is Worship Like? Our worship blends traditional Presbyterian practices with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. A typical Worship Service lasts about an hour with a blend of the Word, prayer, and music which includes congregational hymns and our choir, accompanied by piano or organ. The sermon, music, and readings are based on Scriptures chosen from the Revised Common Lectionary. Holy Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of the month and other special Sundays, and all are welcome. The congregation is directed by the Ushers to come forward, receive the bread from the Pastor and then choose a small cup of juice or intinction of wine from a chalice before returning to the pews for meditation.
What About Children? Children are welcome in worship. We know that children learn faith by participating, asking questions, and being part of the community. Wiggles, whispers, and occasional noise are part of church life, and they don't bother us. A supervised Nursery adjacent to the sanctuary is available for infants through Pre-K. Children from Kindergarten through Fifth grade are dismissed after the Children’s Time for Sunday School.
What Do You Believe? We are a congregation of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), rooted in the Christian faith and committed to following Jesus Christ through worship, learning, service, and community. Take a look at the “What We Believe” tab to learn more.
Will I Be Welcome? Yes, absolutely! We welcome people of every race, age, ability, background, family structure, gender identity, sexual orientation, political perspective, and life experience. You do not have to agree with everyone, have everything figured out, or look a certain way to belong here.
Adult Sunday School classes meet at 9:30 from September through May.
